who would have thought? I think I actually have DA to thank for the last few amazing years with every year getting better.
I started with stock so that I could give back to the DA community for years of stock usage on my manipulations..Small things like fruit and teddy bears and even went a go round with photoshop brushes, each one of those lending to skills I would later use in a career choice.. One day a DA artist asked me to do shoots of a girl in a dress for a manipulation they had planned. OK I'll bite! Some people I knew saw those shots and asked me to do their pics and so on and so forth...then someone asked me to shoot a wedding and a love story started right then, no not the bride and groom but me falling in love with wedding photography. After that shoot my summers fill faster every year. My goal is 9 weddings a year
(after all Im a mom to 3 kids as well and shoot portrait photography too!) This year is only half gone an I've accomplished 6 with 1 more this weekend! Thats awesome!!!!

In the times between I've been shooting portraits and have had a couple all the way from California wait to have theirs done on their vacation to Montana, I'm no cheaper then a california portrait photog, so I was flattered and then yesterday a booking from Washington! Awesome!!! And Today I received my first booking for a 2011 wedding....but they won't be coming to me..I'm shooting in Las Vegas! I love this ridiculously cool life!

Well, my husband and I finally bought our home and so we are now officially "rural" home owners. The place really isn't THAT rural, it's 5 minutes from town in a small community of horse and animal owners. The house itself is in really GREAT shape..But the property leaves some to be desired...We will work on that lol!!

I've been getting busy with weddings this year. An average year for me is Portrait photography with a handful of weddings, almost all of my calls this year have been weddings, which excites me to no end! I picked up my first out of town wedding it's in 3 weeks in the middle of the mountains. The couple come from Idaho, so it feels great to know my work is now being seen out of state! (even if it is only a couple hundred miles away :) ) I've been using cheaper advertising but more of it which is producing better results then a few expensive ad campaigns, And I am still bringing in word of mouth clients as well. Year 5 of Photography is turning out to be an amazing year ( This is the  5th year of charging for my pictures)

Beyond that, I'm enrrolling in school this fall after all the adventure of 2010 vacations and visitors slows down. I'm am set on getting a B.S. in Ecology of wildlife biology. I would LOVE to make a difference in our world and my calling is animals and their environments. But it doesn't mean I'm dropping photography, in fact I see the chance to expand into wildlife photography as a hobby here.

So yes and Amazing year and I forsee that the rest will be just as Amazing...

Oh and I just know i'm going to win the lottery ;P

Hello 2010!

2 min read
Well, it's been a year of ups downs, disappointments and Promises fulfilled and I am thankful for everyone of those moments!
I had so many great opportunities last year like getting to work with Seattle photographer :iconanonymous-art: getting direct advice from my icon in photography Mr. Jeff Ascough, he really inspires me to try harder and keep going, I see his natural light work and think, yeah it's possible!

I lost a very dear friend this last year as well his work in landscapes was phenomenal, though his left little of his work online except his older stuff www.stevenmcroskrey.com/galler… his friends remember him through his pictures. I wish his Yellowstone series was up there.

2010 promises to be a wild year already, I've got weddings booked for the summer and I am going to attempt a small town Montana tour to get to people who normally don't have access to a photographer except by driving 100 miles.  This month we will be buying an RV and in July we will be setting out to see the Northwest US the way it should be by backroads and bi-ways, 2 weeks of adventure and fun!

Then there's, moving boxes are currently invading every ounce of my living space and it's driving me nuts! But it's a necessary evil I 'spose, to get into a nice home of our own. Currently I rent from a slum lord, I'm done with this crap lol. I'm hoping our future new home has property so I can plant a garden and have some critters for the kids!

My Christmas 09 gift from my computer company was a nice Hard drive crash that they won't claim! Agh, the losers, guess it's time to move to Mac.

Not going to let it get me down, this is year 4 of doing this photography thing as a job, I intend to make this an EXTREMELY great year!

Following the loss of a dear friend recently, life has altered in so many ways I could never have imagined. It's been a time of major reorientation, Learning that some things we take for granted shouldn't be, even the simple things. I'll miss him so much. My kids are all growing up and becoming independent and
now is the time for me to start looking at the future. As much as you'd think I would want to go back to school for Photography (though it's still plausible) I'm trying to decide between that or Ecology. I'm not sure which yet. And still my heart tells me to just go on a "walk about" to sort all of the things running through my mind. Ironically I must be stayed to consider which it is that I NEED to do. haha. So much has changed in my life over the course of 2 weeks. that's just simply amazing.

Five years ago I was a wishful thinking amateur photographer, snapping pics of my kids left and right...
The are cute why not!?
Three years ago, I was really drawn into fantasy, photo manipulations, and then I found DA. After
awhile I thought I would like to use my own models so I began taking stock pictures. I really liked taking pictures of kids and nature.
Two years ago, people started offering money for me to take their pictures, I picked up books read them front to back, practiced each technique until my brain fried, joined forums and groups, got out every morning and just kept shooting, My uncle in law is a photography professor and he began to give me tips and tricks on what to do.
Now here I am, People don't pay me a small tip for taking their pictures, they actively seek me out to
shoot their weddings and such. It feels so wonderful to know I am doing what I love to do and am able to add to the income of my home. It doesn't get better then this.
I never dreamed I would be taking pictures of people memories, documenting and catching their moments
the way they should be...this is a big giant kudos to those people who told me not to give up and to those who have supported me, especially my DA family!
